The Statewide Master Gardener Program has once again partnered with the California Center for Urban Horticulture, this time to bring you Advanced Citrus and Avocado training! The Your Sustainable Backyard: Citrus and Avocoado Series will be hosted in three locations in the upcoming weeks and will explore citrus and avocado varieties for the home garden, maintenance and upkeep, and special information on the pests that wreak havoc on citrus and avocados.

Special focus will be given to invasive pest Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP) and the effects of Citrus Greening Disease. We'll discuss identification, monitoring, and treatment of this threat to the California Citrus industry and to home citrus. Find out what all the fuss is about and educate yourselves to better serve the clientele in your region.

Cost of the workshop is $20 and include materials and lunch. Event runs from 8:30am-4:00pm and is open to the public so bring your spouse or friends! Click on the links below to register or view more information.

How come the second largest city in the state with the largest percentage of small farms doesn't get it's own workshop? Please consider adding us to your statewide outreach. It is difficult and expensive to travel to Los Angeles from San Diego. With our proximity to the border and a very active MG program, we would fill a class easily.

Hi Robin,
You aren't the first to note that San Diego would also be a prime location for Citrus and Avocado training. Trust us when we say that we love to visit beautiful San Diego when we can and are currently working on adding a June workshop for the San Diego area. Cross your fingers and stay tuned!
Thanks!
Aubrey

What time frame is correct? One part shows 10-4 and another shows 8:30-4.

Hi Marjorie: It is from 8:30 to 4:00 p.m. We will make adjustments to the website to correct that error. Thanks for the heads up. Pam

Hi,
I do need a clarification about the time. I would be coming from San Jose-a 2 1/2 hour trip. If it is at 8:30, we would need to leave by 5:45-6:00 in the morning. I haven't signed up yet: I need a confirmation if it is 8:30 or 10 am because that is a world of difference for time to leave! I put out that I would carpool:I need to let people know if it is a different start time.

I really, really want to attend this training. All three are dates I will be out of town. My son is getting married June 22. Please, oh please, have the training in San Diego in July.
Thanks for considering my request.

I was too late to sign-up for the Davis class. Is there a wait list in case some people drop? Thanks, Debbie Muth

The whole of Santa Clara County Master Gardeners were NOT able to attend the Davis class due to the SCC Spring Market Garden (we sell heirloom vegetables on that same date.) DVD for sale? Another class?

See above post-My carpool and myself not coming, so post doesn't need an answer.

Hi Aubrey, thanks to you and Scott Parker for bringing this event to avocado and citrus-rich San Diego County!

Perhaps one of the trainings can be video/recorded so those that cant attend, can benefit from it. See you in June!
